RALEIGH, NC — Governor Roy Cooper announced Monday that the State of Emergency placed on NC due to the winter storm will expire on Tuesday at noon.
βTravel conditions have gotten much better, but weβre still concerned about ice and snow on some secondary roads through Tuesday morning,β said Gov. Roy Cooper. βPlease be patient while the state thaws and take your time if youβre on the road.β
Temperatures across the state are expected to rise well above freezing Tuesday, allowing icy conditions to subside.
According to officials, power outages across the state peaked at around 30,200, and 63 out of 115 school districts were forced to close on Monday.
The State Highway Patrol says they responded to 1,650 accidents and 3,617 calls for service across the state from Friday evening to Monday morning.
Officials say two deaths have been reported due to the storm.
