CMPD: Bicyclist Hit And Killed In Southeast Charlotte May Have Been Under The Influence

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating after a pedestrian on a bicycle was hit and killed on Monroe Road near Shade Valley Road in southeast Charlotte.

The accident happened just before 7pm Monday night. Police say a man in roughly his mid-30s was riding a bicycle on the inside lane closest to the double yellow lines. The driver of the vehicle came up behind the bicyclist, did not see him, and hit him. Medic pronounced the victim dead on the scene, according to officials.

Officials say the bicyclist did not appear to have any flashers or lights on the bike while riding at night, and investigators believe the bicyclist may have been under the influence at the time of the accident. Investigators say they do not believe speed or alcohol played a role on the part of the driver at this time.

CMPD says the driver is currently not being charged in the accident.
