CMPD Partners With QT To Prevent Auto Thefts

CHARLOTTE, NC — On Thursday January 26th CMPD will be partnering with local Quick Trip locations to help prevent auto thefts.

Officials say auto thefts have been on the rise throughout Charlotte this year, and many were the result of keys being left in unattended vehicles. From January 1-22 CMPD says there were 189 vehicles stolen, which is a 60% increase over the amount stolen during the same time period last year. Over 50 of those stolen had keys left either in the ignition or in the vehicle, according to reports.

To help raise awareness about this issue CMPD officers will be at four Quick Trip store locations Thursday to reward drivers who show officers their keys. Drivers showing their keys will get coupons for free drinks provided by QT. Officials say officers will also be handing out pamphlets and discussing other crime topics as well.

If you’d like to participate you can visit one of the following four locations between 6am and 9am January 26th:

  • 3025 Wilkinson Boulevard
  • 4937 Sunset Road
  • 6721 Albemarle Road
  • 116 Clanton Road
