Local Woman Questions Why ‘Lesbianism’ Listed As A Problem On Her Medical Chart
CHARLOTTE, NC– A local woman wants to know why her doctor listed “Lesbianism” as a problem on her medical chart. The woman, who’s been married to her partner for a few years now, says she’s never seen her sexual orientation listed as a “problem.”
Kristina Rodriguez says she is telling her story so other people are aware of what happened and check their own medical records.
She went to lake park family practice recently in Indian Trail and saw the document.
“It’s never been on my record until this provider saw me. You know, not like this, anyways. Sexual orientation is always something you can fill out on your paperwork at the doctor, but for it to say ‘problem is lesbianism,’ I can tell you it is definitely not something that has been there in the past,” said Kristina Rodriguez.
A spokesperson for Carolinas eHalthcare sent WCCB Charlotte a statement saying, “This is not an appropriate clinical diagnosis, and we are actively investigating how this information was included…Carolinas Healthcare System strongly supports diversity and inclusion…”
