CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte officials met with concerned citizens of the Latino community after an undercover detective fatally shot a man off Albemarle Road Thursday afternoon.
Police say an undercover detective followed a vehicle driven by, 28-year-old, Josue Diaz after Diaz’s vehicle sideswiped the detective’s vehicle and did not stop. As the detective called for backup, the suspect stopped near Farm Pond Lane and exited his vehicle holding a firearm.
According to a CMPD report, Diaz discharged his weapon at the officer, who then shot and killed Diaz.
The undercover detective has not been identified due to the nature of his assignment and has been placed on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing.
