CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Congressman Robert Pittenger has issued a statement regarding President Trump’s executive order on immigration.
Pittenger, who has supported restrictions on Syrian refugees, released the following statement:
“While we should be responsive to those who are persecuted for their faith or impacted by war, we need a thorough vetting of all refugees, consistent with the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act (H.R. 4038), which I co-sponsored and helped pass with strong bipartisan support in 2015. This bipartisan legislation required the FBI, CIA, and Homeland Security to be engaged in the refugee vetting process to prevent access by infiltrated terrorists.
Congressman Pittenger represents North Carolina’s ninth congressional district. He serves as Chairman of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare and Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance.
