Protests Outside Charlotte-Douglas International Airport
CHARLOTTE, NC – In Charlotte and in major cities across the US, people protested Sunday after President Trump banned travel into the from seven predominately Muslim countries.
The President is defending his executive order. He says the US will start issuing visas again after a security review.
That’s not stopping the protests.
One at Charlotte-Douglas lasted almost eight hours Sunday.
People started gathering around 1:00pm just at the airport entrance at Wilkinson Blvd. and Josh Birmingham Parkway.
“I feel like what we’re doing right now is sickening, to stop people who are in the most need in the world,” says Rev. Justin Martin with Piedmont Unitarian Universalist Church.
Menassie Ephrem drove four hours from Myrtle Beach.
“That’s who immigrants are. We come here to work, we come here to contribute, we come here to build the country. We don’t come here to do any damage,” Ephrem says.
