CHARLOTTE, NC — On Monday, Charlotte Mayor Jennifer Roberts issued a statement regarding the recent executive orders issued by President Trump.
“As the Mayor of Charlotte, Iβve been working hard with our local leaders to build and preserve trust in all of our communities, including immigrant communities. The work to build that trust is an ongoing process.
President Trump’s actions have greatly damaged the public trust. The public safety of all our residents should be our federal government’s top priority, but an unconstitutional religious test does not make us safer. This action emboldens our enemies and diminishes America’s role as the leader of the free world.
As Mayor, I want to keep working with you to build a city that protects all of our residents and provides for the safety of all. In spite of the Trump Administration’s Executive Order, our city’s policies and practices will not change in fulfilling this mission.
We are a nation of immigrants, and together we will continue to lift a lamp beside the golden door.
Thank you,
Jennifer”
