BURKE COUNTY, NC — A 44-year-old Valdese man was charged with soliciting a minor through social media and attempting to meet for sex following an undercover investigation. 
Timothy Shelnut has been charged with Solicitation of a Child by Computer and Indecent Liberties with a Child. Deputies say Shelnut engaged in inappropriate conversations through social media with a minor, which prompted an undercover investigation. Shelnut then arranged to meet who he thought was the minor for sexual activities, according to reports.
When Shelnut arrived at the location, deputies placed him under arrest.
He is being held under a $5000 secured bond.
