UPDATE: Third Suspect Arrested After Police Charge Two Suspects In Series Of Armed Robberies

UPDATE: Police have arrested a suspect for his involvement in the robbery of the Family Dollar located at 5240 N. Sharon Amity Road.

Detectives have charged, 17-year-old, Khyree Lewis with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

Police responded to a robbery call at the Family Dollar, at 9:47 p.m., on January 9, 2017.

The police investigation into other robberies involving Michel Cole and Kareim Newton led to the discovery of Khyree Lewis as a suspect in the Family Dollar Robbery.

UPDATE: Police have arrested and charged two suspects in connection to multiple armed robberies throughout the Charlotte-area.

On Wednesday, officials say Dontavius Newton, 20, was arrested on Reagan Drive and charged with four counts of Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. Michael Cole, 16, was arrested Friday and charged with five counts of Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, according to CMPD.

Both suspects were arrested without incident, officials say.

Cole and Newton were charged in connection to the following armed robberies:

  • On Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at 9:14 p.m., the suspects entered the Dollar Tree, located at 2933 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, in the North Division.  The suspects brandished firearms while demanding money from the victim business.  Once the suspects obtained the property they fled the scene.
  • On Wednesday, December 07, 2016, at 8:58 p.m., North Division patrol officers responded to a robbery from business call for service at the ABC Strore, located at 9737 Callabridge Court.  After entering the business, the suspects displayed firearms and demanded money from the victim business.  The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
  • On Saturday, January 21, 2017, at approximately 7:19 p.m., University City Division officers responded to the Family Dollar, located at 2716 W. Sugar Creek Road, in reference to an armed robbery from business.  Upon arrival the employees advised officers that the business was robbed at gunpoint.  The suspect then fled the scene.
  • On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, North Tryon Division patrol officers responded to the Family Dollar, located at 4500 N. Tryon Street, in reference to an armed robbery from the business.  Employees advised officers that two black male suspects had robbed the business at gunpoint and then fled the scene.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing and more charges may be given.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Armed Robbery Unit are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspects who are responsible for several armed robberies.

On Wednesday, November 30, at 9:14 p.m., the suspects entered the Dollar Tree, located at 2933 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, in the North Division, according to a news release.  Police say the suspects brandished firearms while demanding money from the victim business.  Once the suspects obtained the property they fled the scene.

On Thursday, December 01, at 8:51 p.m., Hickory Grove Division patrol officers responded to a robbery from business call for service at the Burger King, located at 7026 Albemarle Road.  Once inside the business, the suspects reportedly brandished weapons and demanded money from the victim business.  The suspects fled after obtaining the property.

On Wednesday, December 07, at 8:58 p.m., North Division patrol officers responded to a robbery from business call for service at the ABC Strore, located at 9737 Callabridge Court.  After entering the business, the suspects allegedly displayed firearms and demanded money from the victim business.  The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

About fifteen minutes later, the same suspects are accused of entering the Family Dollar, located at 3120 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road.  The suspects reportedly pointed their weapons at the employees and demanded money.  The suspects fled the scene in the same vehicle. Robbery

The first suspect (who is pictured in the image) is described as a black male, approximately 6’3”, thin build and was last seen wearing a gray color hoody and jeans. The second suspect is described as a light skinned black male,  approximately 6’ tall.
