CONCORD, NC — Officials with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office and Carbarrus County Schools are investigating after a student brought an unloaded gun on a school bus Monday afternoon.
Deputies say someone tipped them off around 2:30pm about a male student carrying a gun on the school bus. Deputies stopped the bus on Flowes Store Road and found an unloaded handgun in a student’s bookbag, according to reports.
School officials say the juvenile is a student at Central Cabarrus High School. Detectives say the student does not appear to have made any threats towards school faculty or any other students at this time.
Cabarrus County School officials released the following statement on the incident:
“Providing our students with a safe learning environment is a priority. Todayβs incident is quite unsettling, but we are grateful to the students who reported the situation and are thankful that no one was hurt. Cabarrus County Schools will continue to work with our local law enforcement partners to ensure student and staff safety.”
