UPDATE: Officials have identified the pilot as John Shell.
Shell was flying the Super Six, fix-wing experimental aircraft when it crashed around 4:30pm in a wooded area on Jamestown Road, according to the FAA.
The FAA says they’re investigating the incident.

MORGANTON, NC — A pilot walked away with only minor injuries after his single-engine plane crashed in Monday afternoon.
The highway patrol says the plane hit a tree about 30 feet up and crashed to the ground near Jamestown Road. Two passersby helped the 84-year-old pilot out of the plane before it burst into flames. The pilot was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Morganton public safety and the FAA are investigating.
