Two Injured By Sword Wielding Mother

GASTONIA, NC — A mother was charged with injuring her son and a 2-year-old child with a Samurai sword during an argument Monday night.

According to reports, Mechelle Willis, 45, got into an argument with her son at a home on Safeway Drive Monday night. Police say the son was holding a 2-year-old child while allegedly throwing objects at Willis. Willis then grabbed a Samurai sword, that was still in its wooden sheath, and swung, according to reports.

Officials say Willis only swung the sword one time, but hit both her son and the 2-year-old child. Both the son and child required medical attention, police say, but neither were life threatening injuries.

Willis is charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Minor Present, and Assault on a Child Under 12.
