CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Detectives have arrested a man they say is responsible for a rash of apartment leasing office robberies.
Police say James Murray, 20, is suspected in at least 10 leasing office burglaries in the Charlotte area dating back to September, 2016.
According to police reports, Murray would use a hammer to “smash the glass to the apartment complex leasing offices and take money orders from the offices.”
On February 2, 2017, detectives successfully identified a Jaguar X-series vehicle witnesses saw in the area of a February 2, 2017 robbery. Witnesses also described a potential suspect as wearing a “Ghostbusters” sweatshirt.
Less than a week later, on February 6, 2017, officers located the Jaguar with Murray inside along with money orders from a robbery on February 6, 2017. Officers also fond the hammer used in the crime and a “Ghostbusters” sweatshirt.
Officers arrested Murray for an outstanding Probation Violation. He was interviewed by Detectives from the Hickory Grove and North Divisions. Murray admitted to multiple apartment leasing office burglaries and to wearing the “Ghostbusters” sweatshirt on multiple burglaries.
Murray was charged with Felony Probation Vioaltion, Breaking and Entering, Larceny After Breaking and or Entering, and Possession of Stolen Property.
