Fort Mill Teen Charged After Posting “Cryptic” Messages Online

FORT MILL, SC — Police say they have located and charged a 16-year-old who posted “cryptic” messages on Instagram that caused a panic in local schools.

Police say concerned residents alerted them to the messages being posted to the popular social media site in recent days. The messages, which included things like “planning for months,” their “legacy will begin,” and to “let the games begin,” were in reference to an unspecified event that was supposedly going to take place on Friday. Police say that the messages did not include any actual threat to anyone or any school, but were “cryptic” in nature.

Officers were able to identify the user behind the posts, which they say he is a 16-year-old juvenile. He was not arrested, but police say he is being charged with Disturbing Schools.
