Officials: Driver Involved In Fatal Hit & Run Of Bicyclist Arrested

UPDATE: Police have arrested and charged Phillip Shook, 38, in connection with the hit and run death of Jessie Miller last Friday night.

Detectives say that Shook was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento when he hit Miller and took off. Shook was arrested earlier today and charged with Felony Hit and Run.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for the driver involved in a hit and run accident that killed a bicyclist in west Charlotte Friday night.

According to reports, CMPD officers responded to a bicyclist being hit by a motor vehicle in the 10000 block of Wilkinson Boulevard at about 11:52 p.m.

Responding officers found Jessie Logan Miller, 28, lying in the westbound lane of Wilkinson Boulevard, where Medic pronounced him dead at 12:00 a.m.

The suspect driver and vehicle fled before CMPD officers arrived at the scene.

Police say Mr. Miller appeared to be traveling in the eastbound lane just inside the Mecklenburg County line, when he was contacted from behind by the suspect vehicle.

Reports indicate Mr. Miller was not wearing a helmet, but his bicycle did have front and rear lights.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the accident.
