Two Teens Arrested After Breaking Into, Damaging Indian Land High School

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC — Deputies have arrested two teens charged with second degree burglary after breaking into Indian Land High School.

Steven Bigham, 17, and Dawson Gainey, 16, were arrested Monday after investigators say they broke into the nurse’s office, computer lab, automotive shop, construction shop and classroom, and cafeteria Sunday night. Officials say equipment that included tools, computers, kitchen appliances, as well as three vehicles in the auto shop were either damaged or destroyed by the suspects. Several items were also reported missing.

Deputies say Bigham and Gainey were seen on surveillance and later identified. Investigators served search warrants on the suspect’s homes and located several items believed to have been taken from the school.

Sheriff Barry Faile said, “These young men caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. Thankfully students were off yesterday. The damage is expected to total many thousands of dollars. They gained little from their crimes and got caught before the sun set on another day. We are glad we got this case solved quickly and recovered some of the stolen goods.”

Both suspects are also being charged with Malicious Injury to Property over $10,000 and Malicious Injury to Property under $2,000.
