Suspect Arrested After Two Charlotte Armed Bank Robberies

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD says that 36-year-old Casner Cooper, Jr. has been arrested and charged in connection with two armed bank robberies Friday afternoon.

The first robbery, according to police, happened around 2:30pm at the BB&T Bank on Fairview Road. Police were told a white male robbed the bank at gunpoint and then took off.

A second robbery happened about an hour later at the Wells Fargo on South Boulevard at New Bern Street. Police say the white male suspect fired one shot in the parking lot before taking off in a red Camaro.

Officers located the Camaro a short time later and were led on a brief pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a tree on Phillips Avenue. No one was injured in any of the incidents, according to police.

Cooper was arrested following the chase and is being interviewed by CMPD and FBI officials. The investigation is ongoing.
