SALISBURY, NC — Tyler Nichols, 17, was arrested Friday after police say he broke into multiple vehicles and then stabbed a victim who confronted him.
Police say the break-ins happened around 12:30am Tuesday at the Colony Garden Apartments on Statesville Boulevard. According to reports, responding officers were told shots had been fired at the location while en route. Police say they found 43-year-old Johnnie Faulkner sitting on the ground with multiple stab wounds to the neck, head, and back when they arrived.
Faulkner confronted Nichols when he saw him breaking into his car, according to police, and that’s when Nichols stabbed Faulkner and then Faulkner fired shots at Nichols before he took off into the woods.
Police say Faulkner was taken to the hospital for treatment, and has since been released. Items stolen from the vehicles were also recovered at the scene, according to reports.
Nichols turned himself into police Friday and he was charged with one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, four counts of Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, and three counts of Larceny.
