CHARLOTTE N.C. — Over the weekend, CMPD Animal Control, Charlotte Fire Department, and Piedmont Natural Gas crews helped rescue a small chihuahua that was trapped inside a sewer pipe.

Officials say the incident happened just before noon Saturday on Plaza Walk Drive. Charlotte fire crews, along with crews and heavy equipment from Piedmont Natural Gas, spent about three hours working to rescue the trapped chihuahua.

Once freed, officials say the dog was returned to its owner and taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.
