WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. — A registered sex offender, in Boone, N.C., has been charged with murder following the death of an infant.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office says on March 1, 2017, officers responded to reports of an infant not breathing on Ray Brown Road in Boone, North Carolina, on March 1, 2017.
The infant was transported by Medic to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem for treatment.
An investigation began immediately and, as a result, on March 4, Ryan Neil Hicks, 24, was arrested and charged with Failure to Register as Sex Offender and Negligent Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury.
On March 3, the infant died at Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. Mr. Hicks was then Charged with Negligent Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury, Sex Offender Using Social Website and Second Degree Murder.
He was given a $1,100,000.00 bond and awaits court on April 6, 2017.
