CHARLOTTE, NC — The head of the Mecklenburg County Health Department told county commissioners Tuesday night that they are still looking for five women who were not notified of abnormal pap smear results.
Dr. Marcus Plescia says a county worker is going door-to-door trying to find those women. Their challenge, he says, is delivering personal health information, so he is worried about partnering with law enforcement to find them.
Dr. Plescia also reiterated that they did not find any cancer among those 185 pap smears. Based on their best medical advice, he says the women do need follow up and treatment, but their conditions are manageable.
Commissioners also said the state will conduct an audit of the health department beginning March 21.
