UPDATE: AT&T says the issue that was preventing callers nationwide from reaching their local 911 call centers has been fixed.

CHARLOTTE, NC — AT&T says there is an issue within their system that is preventing some wireless users from calling 911.
The problem has been reported in 911 call centers all across the country. AT&T tweeted Wednesday night that they are “aware of issue affecting some calls to 911 for wireless customers… working to resolve ASAP.”
Charlotte Fire Communications says the issue is widespread and providers other than AT&T are also being affected, though they do not specifically say which ones.
Officials with Charlotte Fire say that anyone who gets a busy signal while trying to call 911 for a fire emergency should hang up and call the administration number at 704-336-2441.
CMPD has also issued a statement saying that any callers who experience difficulties in getting through should call the administrative line at 704-336-3237.
Other agencies are also advising users to call the department’s non-emergency number for the service they’re trying to reach.
