Shootout in East Charlotte Shopping Center Leaves Two Hurt

CHARLOTTE, NC – Shoppers and workers were caught in the line of fire when police say a shoot out erupted in the parking lot of an East Charlotte shopping center.

Two people shot are recovering.

“We just saw all the crime scene tape, the police, and all the bullet holes,” explains East Charlotte resident Jennifer Godbolt.

She walked up to find shattered doors and windows.

Police say it’s the result of a shootout in broad daylight at East Town Market at Milton Road and W.T. Harris.

American Deli got the worst damage.

“There was a lot of people out here earlier. They were just saying that people were shooting at each other and that’s all they knew,” Godbolt says.

One victim drove himself to a home on Wickville Drive for help.

MEDIC tells us he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Another person injured on the scene is expected to be OK.

“It’s kinda concerning. Cause I could have been at work. And they coulda shot at our building. And coulda hit anybody,” says East Charlotte resident Brittnie Peters.

She just got a job at the store next door.

Peters says this type of violence is senseless.

“Fight about it. Don’t.. there’s no reason to shoot and put other people in dangerous because of your drama,” she says.
