Suspect In Southwest Charlotte Homicide Arrested In Greensboro

UPDATE: CMPD says Leroy Cooper III was arrested in Greensboro Friday, and is being transferred back to Charlotte.

investigators say Cooper will be charged with the first degree Murder of Jennifer Smith.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: CMPD says they are looking for 41-year-old Leroy “Jay” Cooper III in connection to Wednesday’s murder in southwest Charlotte.

According to police, a first degree Murder warrant has been issued for Cooper.

Anyone with information on Cooper’s whereabouts should immediately call 911.

UPDATE:  Police are treating the death on Verdant Court as a homicide.

CMPD has identified the victim as 34-year-old Jennifer Renee Smith.   Police say that Smith and the suspect were in a relationship.

No arrests have been made and the case is still under investigation.

CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD says they are investigating a death on Verdant Court in southwest Charlotte.

The call for a welfare check came in just before 2:30pm, according to police. Officers responded and found a woman inside the home.

Medic pronounced her dead on the scene.

CMPD says they are waiting on the Medical Examiner to determine cause of death, and will release an update when it comes available.
