CMPD Officer Charged With Assaulting Girlfriend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer has been arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend.

CMPD says Officer Kevin Marin was charged with Second-Degree Kidnapping, Assault by Strangulation, Assault on a Female and Damage to Property.

Officers were called  to a disturbance in the 2200 block of Hawkins street at about 3:00 a.m., on Sunday morning.  Arriving officers determined Marin strangled and assaulted his girlfriend.

The victim was treated and released at Carolinas Medical Center.

CMPD hired Marin in September of 2015, and he is assigned to the Hickory Grove Division.

He has been placed on administrative leave without pay and is the subject of a criminal and internal investigation.
