ROCK HILL, SC — A Rock Hill landlord was arrested Sunday after tenants found cameras hidden in the bathroom of his property.
Douglas Veihdeffer, 60, was charged with Voyeurism after a tenant at his Cardinal Hill Drive home found a camera hidden inside the door of the bathroom and called authorities.
According to reports, Veihdeffer was renting part of his house to a small family while still living in another part of the home. Deputies say the father of the family had noticed a black coat/towel hook on the door of the bathroom that would occasionally disappear and then reappear. When he pulled the hook off Sunday, officials say he found a small camera with a micro USB port and a 16GB micro SD card hidden inside.
The father told deputies that he and his wife, as well as any visitors they may have, use the bathroom where the camera was found. Deputies say the father believed Douglas, who he said was also a family friend and would occasionally even babysit for them, was the only person who could have put up the camera.
When detectives questioned Douglas, officials say he admitted to placing the camera in the bathroom, but claimed it was done because he believed people visiting were stealing from him.
According to reports, when investigators searched Douglas’s computer and a second hidden camera they found explicit video of a female living in the home as well as video of that victim’s sister being recorded in various locations, including the shower, toilet, and cabin of a boat. Police say Douglas then admitted to intentionally recording people without clothes, and had used one of the hidden cameras for years.
Douglas was arrested and charged with Aggravated Voyeurism, and a warrant was issued to search the rest of the property.
The investigation is ongoing.
