UPDATE: The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, where Firefighter Michael Pennell worked as a 911 Center telecommunicator, released a statement on his death:
“It is with sadness that we learned on Monday, April 17 th about the death of Alexander County Sheriff’s Office 911 Telecommunicator Michael Eric “Bubba” Pennell, while he was on duty at the Central Alexander Fire Department.
Mr. Pennell was 49 years old and had worked for the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office for more than 12 years. He was known and loved throughout Alexander County as he exemplified dedication to his fellow telecommunicators and emergency responders while keeping the community safe, whether he was answering 911 calls or volunteering with the fire department. Our hearts are heavy at the loss of one of our own, and we send the deepest condolences to his wife Amy, the entire Sheriff’s Office family, and Bubba’s fellow firefighters.
On Saturday, his family, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and the Central Alexander Fire Department will honor his lie and service to the community. The family will receive friends at Millersville Baptist Church on April 22, 2017, from 1:00 until 3:45 PM. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with Rev. Bill Orren and Rev. Brian Kerley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

TAYLORSVILLE, NC — Officials say Firefighter Michael ‘Bubba’ Pennell will be laid to rest Saturday afternoon at the Millersville Baptist Church cemetery.
According to a release, Pennell’s family will be joined by the Central Alexander Fire Department and the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, April 22nd to honor his service to the community. The family will then receive friends from 1pm-3:45pm, followed by the funeral service at 4pm.
The service will be officiated by Rev. Bill Orren and Rev. Brian Kerley, and burial will take place at the Church’s cemetery.
While specific procession route details have not yet been released, officials do say emergency service agencies will be able to stand along the route and emergency vehicles will also be allowed to participate in the procession.
Pennell was killed in the line of duty Monday while working at the Central Alexander County Fire Department in Taylorsville, according to a release. Pennell also served the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office – 911 Center as a telecommunicator.
