Manhunt Ends as Facebook Killer Takes His Own Life

ERIE, PA – A nationwide manhunt for the suspected Cleveland Facebook killer is over. An employee at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s recognized Steve Stephens after he ordered food in the drive-thru.

“The drive-thru employee that was working at the time recognized him or thought, noticed that the car was Ohio tags on it and was a white Fusion,” says restaurant owner Tom Ducharme Jr.

The restaurant owner says they called police then tried to stall him.

“Told him it was going to be a minute for his fries, which it wasn’t really,” Ducharme Jr. says.

But Stephens didn’t want to wait.

“Took his six-piece and didn’t want any money back. And head out to Buffalo Road and about the minute he turned right on Buffalo Road, the State Police was right behind him,” Ducharme Jr. says.

“There was a short pursuit, in which the vehicle was stopped. As the officers approached that vehicle, Steve Stevens took his own life,” says Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams.

Investigators say Stephens shot and killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday as he walked home from an Easter meal.

He then posted video of the killing on Facebook, which stayed up for two hours before being taken down.

The site’s CEO Mark Zuckerburg is addressing concerns about people using Facebook to share videos involving violence.

“We have a lot of work and we will keep doing all we can to prevent tragedies like this from happening,” Zuckerberg says.
