Bicyclist Dies After Colliding With Vehicle In Southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Investigators say a bicyclist has died after colliding with a vehicle in southwest Charlotte.

Officers responded to the accident on Scott Futrell Drive near Interstate Trailer Park Drive Sunday afternoon just before 4pm.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a car driven by Sheila Glover was approaching the intersection when the bicyclist, Sonny Locklear, entered the roadway and struck the right rear of the vehicle, according to a news release.

Police say Locklear was not wearing reflective gear or a helmet at the time of the crash.  Locklear was taken to a local hospital where he died the next day from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
