CHARLOTTE, N.C. — U.S. Representative Robert Pittenger is asking the House Ethics Committee to conduct an investigation into his role with his former real estate company.
The FBI has been looking into whether Pittenger improperly transferred funds from his company, Pittenger Land Investments (PLI), to his 2012 campaign.
The Congressman denies any wrongdoing, and says the House Ethics Committee will prove that.
βI have lived a life of integrity,β said Congressman Pittenger, βpersonally, professionally, and in public service. Regrettably, recent media reports have not conveyed accurate information regarding our activities. Out of respect for my constituents, and love for my family, I am requesting a full investigation by the Ethics Committee to confirm my compliance with House rules.
The bipartisan House Committee on Ethics has the authority to investigate alleged violations of any applicable rules, laws, or regulations governing the performance of official duties or the discharge of official responsibilities, and has the sole authority to recommend discipline of Members of the House, when appropriate.
Pittenger says his office has asked the Committee for guidance regarding his role with PLI to ensure that he remained in compliance with the law.
Pittenger wrote in his letter to the Committee, βMy objective is to address these issues directly and confirm that I have always acted properly and in full respect for the law and House Ethics rules.β
Congressman Pittenger has ties to Bahakel Communications, which owns WCCB Charlotte.
