SHELBY, N.C. — Two parents from Cleveland County are facing felony child abuse charges.

Investigators say they were called to Carolinas Medical Center after a 6-month-old child was admitted into the hospital with serious injuries.

After an investigation, officials say they arrested Steven Dean, 34, and Morgan Conn, 34, on felony child abuse charges.

The child is still listed in critical condition at Levine Children’s Hospital. Other children found at the couple’s home on Rehoboth Church Road in Shelby have been placed in DSS custody.

Sheriff Norman states “Cases involving children are always difficult. Babies are at the mercy of their parents to take care of them and keep them safe. Unfortunately this did not happen in this case. I would ask everyone to keep this baby in their thoughts and prayers as she continues to battle for her life”.
