Union County Officials Increasing Security After Threat Found In Middle School Bathroom

WAXHAW, NC — Union County Public Schools and the Union County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a threat was found written on a bathroom wall Monday.

The principal of Marvin Ridge Middle School, Jay Jones, sent the following message to parents regarding the incident:

“Good evening, this is Principal Jones calling with an important message. In an effort to keep you informed and maintain open lines of communication, I want to let you know that there was a threat communicated today via a note on a bathroom wall. No one was injured all students and staff remained safe. We work very hard to ensure a safe school environment and take every threat seriously. Our administrative team is working with law enforcement to investigate this matter. Thank you for your partnership with Marvin Ridge Middle School.”

The sheriff’s office says they will put extra deputies at the school Tuesday as a precaution, but UCSO spokesman Tony Underwood says the threat is NOT credible at this time. Underwood says the investigation into the threat is ongoing however, and it is being taken seriously.

Officials with both the school and sheriff’s office are still working to find who wrote the message.
