Former FBI Assistant Director Talks About Comey Firing
CHARLOTTE, NC – “I’m sure that within the inner circles of the FBI, there’s a little bit of chaos right now,” says former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker.
Swecker says it’s a move no one saw coming, even Comey himself.
“He was here a month ago, we spoke to him. He didn’t talk like.. he said I’m here for another six and a half years,” Swecker says.
But Tuesday’s firing raises questions about President Trump’s motive and timing.
A reporter asked President Trump, “Why did you fire Director Comey?”
Trump responded, “He wasn’t doing a good job, very simply, he was not doing a good job.”
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill question if the President wants to impede an FBI investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
“Let me be clear with this. That’s not what this is about. That’s not what this is about,” Vice-President Mike Pence told reporters.
The administration insists the President lost confidence in Comey and that he overstepped his bounds by talking publicly about the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private e-mail server.
“You don’t talk to the press about ongoing investigations, and that’s happened several times over the past six months,” Swecker says.
For that, Swecker says the firing is justified, and he’s confident the Russia investigation will continue to be fair and impartial no matter who becomes FBI director.
“I think this firing actually enhances the chances of this investigation moving forward aggressively because there is so much focus, there is so much sunlight on this investigation,” Swecker explains.
