CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One person is dead following an accident on I-485 at the Wilkinson Boulevard exit.
The Wilkinson Boulevard ramp in the inner loop of I-485 is currently closed. Β Motorists are asked to use I-85 south to exit 29 (Sam Wilson Road) then turn right to proceed back to US 74 as an alternate route.
Troopers say a garbage truck driver exited onto the ramp after a tire blew on their vehicle. Β A witness told Troopers a driver of an SUV, who was also exiting onto Wilkinson Boulevard, was traveling at a high rate of speed when they collided with the guardrail, ran off the shoulder, got back on the road and ran into the back of the garbage truck.
The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead on the scene. Β The driver of the garbage truck was not injured. Β Check back for updates.
