CMPD Charges Two Teens Following High Speed Chase In Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have charged two teens for their involvement in a robbery and chase that ended in a crash in north Charlotte.

Mychal Samuel, 16, and Luis Espinoza, 17, are facing numerous charges.

Police first responded to a robbery call that happened on May 22nd.  The victim claims a group of people robbed them at gun point and that their vehicle was stolen in the process.  This happened off Dunlavin Way in east Charlotte.

On May 23rd, officers located the occupied stolen vehicle near The Plaza and E. Sugar Creek Road.

Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  Officers pursued the vehicle until the stolen vehicle struck another vehicle pulling out of a parking lot on N. Tryon Street.

The two occupants of the stolen vehicle then fled on foot.

The CMPD K-9 Unit and patrol officers located the two subjects after a short foot pursuit and took them into custody without further incident.  The victim in the vehicle that was struck by the suspects was treated for minor injuries on scene and released.

Samuel has been charged with resisting officer, assault on government official and passenger failing to give info.  Espinoza has been charged with flee to elude arrest, resisting officer and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
