AG Stein Announces $18.6 Million for NC for Do-Not-Call Violations

RALEIGH, NC – Attorney General Josh Stein today announced that North Carolina will receive $18.6 million as a result of a lawsuit against Dish Network related to its violations of Do-Not-Call laws.

North Carolina entered into the lawsuit against Dish Network with three other states and the federal government. This is the largest do-not-call related penalty ever obtained.

β€œThe do-not-call registry was created to prevent this type of aggressive telemarketing,” said Attorney General Stein. β€œMy office will bring action against companies that try to circumvent these laws and contact people who have signed up for the registry.”

In total, Dish Network will pay $168 million to the federal government and $112 million total to North Carolina, California, Illinois and Ohio. North Carolina will receive $18.6 million, a portion of which will go to North Carolina schools.
