Officials Release Cause Of Fire Inside Concord Mills Mall

CONCORD, N.C. — Concord Mills Mall was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a fire that broke out at one of the stores inside the mall.

Fire officials say they responded to FYE inside the mall shortly after 9am due to a fire. Β Smoke was coming from the rear of the mall near the aquarium when crews arrived on the scene, according to Harrisburg Fire.

The mall was evacuated as crews extinguished the fire. Β Crews remained on scene for several hours assisting with carbon monoxide detection and water removal, officials say.

No injuries were reported.

The mall posted on Twitter that they will have a delayed opening this morning.

Investigators say the fire was caused by a malfunctioning exhaust fan in the employee restroom. Officials say roughly $10,000 to $15,000 in structural damage was caused, but mostly by water and smoke.

Nearby stores, Journeys and Buckle, may also have damage, according to officials, but they will remain open. There is no word on when FYE will be able to reopen.
