Local Lawmakers Respond After Comey’s Hearing

CHARLOTTE, NC — Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-9) and Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) both issued statements Thursday evening in response to former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony earlier in the day.

You can read those statements below:

β€œMr. Comey is complicit in not coming forward or resigning if President Trump actually tried to obstruct the investigation.Β  Comey also admitted that he had leaked privileged communication with the President which may be classified.Β  The real focus should be on who is leaking classified information.Β  All of this is speculative noise.Β  We await Mr. Mueller’s investigation for the facts.”

β€œDirector Comey’s shocking testimony illustrates the need for an outside independent commission to investigate the connection between the Trump administration and Russia,” said Congresswoman Adams. β€œToday’s hearing was the first of many that will be required to get the answers the American people demand. It’s clear that a thorough investigation is essential and the special counsel’s work must be supplemented by an independent commission–the integrity and security of our democracy depend upon it.”
