Downed Utility Pole, Power Lines Close I-40 Exit Ramp

CHARLOTTE – Due to severe weather, N.C. Department of Transportation crews have temporarily closed the exit ramp from I-40 East to Fairgrove Church Road (exit 128) in Catawba County.

During an earlier storm, a utility pole snapped, causing power lines to hang down across the area. NCDOT maintenance forces have blocked the exit ramp so Duke Energy crews can work on removing the pole and lowered power lines. The repairs are estimated to take up to six hours.

Motorists can continue east on I-40 to Old U.S. 70 (exit 130). At the top of the exit ramp, drivers can turn right, cross over I-40, and turn right again to access I-40 West.
