CHARLOTTE, N.C — Police say they took three suspects into custody following a pursuit in east Charlotte.

Investigators say officers received a stolen vehicle tag reader hit on a grey Honda Accord at the intersection of Albemarle Road and N. Sharon Amity just before 11:30am.

The officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the suspects reportedly began to stop the vehicle, as if to comply, according to a news release.  Police say as an officer was getting out of his vehicle, the driver of the stolen vehicle backed into the officer’s door, striking the officer.

The suspects then fled in the vehicle, according to police.  The suspects reportedly entered heavy traffic and had to stop the vehicle.  While stopped, police say the suspects put the vehicle in reverse in an attempt to get out of traffic and struck an unmarked police vehicle that was behind them.

Officers then initiated a vehicle pursuit.  The suspects eventually crashed the vehicle into a building on Barcliff Drive and fled on foot, according to a news release.  After a short foot pursuit, police say all three suspects were taken into custody.

No officers were injured.  Police have not released the names of the suspects at this time.
