Family Of Murdered 21-Year-Old College Senior Speaks Out

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nicholas Finch, the brother of Zachary Finch who was shot dead early Sunday afternoon, spoke to the media Tuesday. He spoke of Zachary’s achievements; a scholar athlete studying public health at the University of the Cumberlands, where he was a senior and a pitcher on the baseball team.

The college senior is the victim in Charlotte’s 43rd homicide this year. Family members say Finch went to West Charlotte Sunday afternoon to buy a phone he found on the app “letgo.”

He was found dead at the Arbor Glen Apartments off Clanton Road. His dad tells WCCB Charlotte it appears someone tried to rob Finch, then shot him as he ran away.

Sergeant Susan Manassah concluded the media conference with an appeal to the public for information stating the murder took place at 1:30 pm Sunday afternoon with a park and many residences close by – there is strong belief that someone saw something. Sergeant Manassah also mentioned safety precautions people should use when meeting people for the first time, particularly through an app or website, whether it’s dating or buying/selling goods, don’t meet somewhere you’re not comfortable and always let someone know where you’re going.
