LANCASTER, SC — Sheriff Barry Faile is warning residents about a possible phone scam involving donation solicitations for the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association.
Officials say people have been reporting calls asking for donations over the telephone. Sheriff Faile, who is a member of the association, says they do not solicit memberships or donations over the phone. They are only done through a direct mail campaign.
Sheriff Faile says that anyone who calls asking for you to send money to the SCSA is not doing so on their behalf, and is not legitimate.
Anyone who receives this type of call should report it to Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372 or the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388.
