CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Citizen’s Review Board will hear an appeal from the family of Keith Scott’s family today.
The family is appealing the district attorney’s decision not to charge the CMPD officer who shot and killed Scott last fall.
The Citizens Review Board helps determine whether CMPD officers were justified in using excessive force.
Starting next year, members will have to complete the CMPD’s Citizens Academy, which include eight hours of training and a police ride along. Council members also pitched implicit bias training.
Charlotte’s Citizens Review Board also wants subpoena power when investigating police misconduct allegations.
If lawmakers don’t vote on that legislation by July they will have to wait until ether the 20th or 19th.
