Family Altercation Lead To Murder In Northeast Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — A man has been charged in a homicide that occurred in the University City area.

University City patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call at 7:59 p.m. Monday night on the 10600 block of Atkins Ridge Drive.

Upon arrival, police located 63-year-old Harold Rudolph Jones outside of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead on scene by medic.

The initial call for service indicated the incident had appeared to be a suicide but detectives later determined it was a homicide.

Police arrested Daryl Roby, 22, after an attempted interview at police headquarters and have charged him with Murder.


According to police, the suspect and the victim are family members and were involved in an altercation when the shooting took place.

This will be Charlotte’s 49th homicide this year.
