CHARLOTTE, NC — A man is in custody after what police call a very dangerous domestic violence situation in east Charlotte.
Police say they were called to a domestic violence situation around 6:30pm at an apartment on Parkland Circle. As officers were arriving they say the female was trying to leave and the man fired a shot into the ground right outside the apartment. Police rushed the woman to safety and the man went back inside the apartment.
After a brief standoff with CMPD, officers say they were able to calm the man down and take him into custody.
The woman had also been strangled during the incident and was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to officials.
The suspect is being charged with Assault on a Female, Discharging a Firearm in the City Limit, and Felony Assault by Strangulation. Police say his name will be released once charges are formally filed.
