CHARLOTTE, NC — It happened early this morning right out in the open on a street where people were working in the yard.
The brazen suspect pulled up, but not without others seeing him and calling police.
“There is no safe place you have to be very vigilant wherever you go.”
Neighbors here on Briarcliff Road in Myers Park had a startling visit from police around 8:30 Wednesday morning.
“They said well we’ve had an incident, and I said what happened… they said we had an assault out in the front area.”
This neighbor doesn’t want to be identified, but says her neighbor told her she saw the attempted kidnapping and assault go down and the neighbor called 911.
“She saw a car race up the street, turn around, race back, park at the end of the street, get out, this girl was coming around the corner.”
That’s when police say the suspect touched the girl inappropriately and tried to kidnap her.
“Saw him grab her and she pulled away, and she got away.”
Police say the victim did not know the suspect.
Neighbors say they don’t walk alone anymore and are already on alert.
“Look around you, know what’s going on around you at all times.”
Officials have said that the girl is okay.
