Report on I-77 Toll Lane Claims State Could Cancel Any Time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The head of the North Carolina Department of Transportation could cancel the I-77 toll lane project at any time if they feel it is in your best interest.

That was the word from the consulting firm NC-DOT hired to check how much it would cost the state to back out of the deal.

“The issue really becomes the fact there’s no limit to the toll rate on i-77”, states William Racatansky. “CINTRA can charge whatever they want based up how much congestion there really is.”

The firm’s preliminary report outlines other options for the controversial lanes, such as turning some of the toll lanes into general purpose lanes or allowing cars with two or more people to use the lanes for free.

The final report will be sent to the state secretary of transportation in September.
