GRANITE FALLS, NC — Fire crews are battling a massive fire at the Old Shuford Mill on Falls Avenue in Caldwell County.

The fire broke out Friday evening around 7:15 at the building located near Dudley Avenue and East Street in downtown. Viewers in the area have been posting video of the fire on social media.

Officials say all 16 fire crews in the county are helping fight the fire. Crews from nearby Burke and Catawba Counties were also called for help.

The building was safely evacuated and no injuries have been reported, according to officials. Crews say the building, which is home to several small businesses, storage units, and even apartments, is 100% involved and only 35% contained so far. No other surrounding buildings have been damaged.

Granite Falls Town Manager Jerry Church says several nearby neighborhoods were evacuated due to the heat from the fire, but that mandatory evacuation order has been lifted.

Officials say cooling and rehab centers have also been set up for firefighters battling the blaze. The Red Cross will be setting up additional rehab centers shortly.

Anyone who would like to donate bottled water or Gatorade to the firefighters can drop their donations off at the Granite Falls Police Department.
