Friday Storms Topple Trees In Charlotte, Send Tents Flying At Local Event
CHARLOTTE, NC — Pop up storms moving through the area Friday brought down several trees and sent tents flying at a popular Charlotte event.
An entire road was blocked and three cars were damaged after a tree came down on Commonwealth Avenue in east Charlotte. Neighbors say the tree should have been removed months ago, and say there are several others that also need to be taken care of.
Another tree fell onto a house in the Windsor Park neighborhood on Gladstone Drive. Officials say no one was injured in that incident.
The severe weather also caused an evacuation before the start of The 24 Hours of Booty event in Myers Park. Hundreds had gathered for the event, but had to seek shelter when storms moved in and sent tents flying.
The event raises money for several causes including the Levine Cancer Institute and the Keep Pounding Foundation.
Despite the weather, the event still kicked off on time and will last until 7pm tomorrow.
